Could be that there was a Dodge and Plymouth Assembly plant in LA???????  Lots of MOPARS in Mickey Rooney movies also.

I think that Bill had the last word in that forces outside the studios lobbied for use of particular cars.  How else would you explain 54 Nashes as NYC police units in , could it have been West Side Story?  Or the preponderance of Chrysler products in the Beverly Hillbillies, although Jethro's truck was actually an Oldsmobile. Spencer Tracy does appear in Desoto ads of the late 30s.  All in all it is still nice to see our favourite cars dominating the street scenes.   dp

I am a true fan of the old black, and white movies,  and If you watch many of them you will     notice that Plymouth, and Dodge where used more often than  other makes.   Mopar  Al

I would doubt very much if Bogart had much of a say as to what vehicles were used in his movies. The producers of his films did seem to have a fondness for Chrysler produced vehicles because the '37/38 coupe, with it's trick gun keep under the dash, and the '39 Plym conv were in several Bogart films. The same power boat, with a different name on the bow was also used in a couple of Bogart films.

I would sumise that in reality the studio that Bogart was under contract to had an on-going contract with a "prop company" to supply any and all vehicles. Chrysler also mostlikely had a hand in which vehicles were used, paying a royality to the studio if their cars appeared on film.  I used to know a person who's job it was to get mechandise/products shown in movies....Bill

It is amazing the detail some of these movie go to.  Some years ago "Fargo" was filmed near here - mostly in the middle of the night when the roads could be easily blocked off to traffic.  The bad guys in the movie used an Oldsmobile Cutlass that still had the window sticker in it.  Out of curiousity I checked the sticker VIN vs. the real VIN of the car - two different vehicles but it was still an Oldsmobile dealer window sticker.  I have other stories but there are too long to tell here....

That is true. Humphrey Bogart did seem to use Plymouths in many of his older films. Watch for a film titled "Chain Lightening" from 1950. In it he has a nice '39 Plymouth convertible from time to time.

Seems to me Humphrey Bogart preferred Plymouths in a number of movies including High Sierra where his coupe was a 37 in some scenes and a 38 in others. In The Big Sleep, he has a 38 and the gumshoe Harry Jones has a 35 PJ. Bogart checks the registration paper and if you freeze frame it you can read PJ coupe on the certificate. Someone paid attention to detail.

Spencer Tracy also preferred Chrysler products. It's a Mad mad mad mad World and guess Who's Coming to Dinner are loaded with our favourite cars.
