My ground goes to the generator mount bolt on my 48 Ply, I then put a second cable from the generator mount to one of the starter bolts.

If your ground strap is a braided one, and has been on there for a
long time you would be better off replacing it. They tend to corrode
over time and set up a resistance which will degrade the performance
of you electrical system.

Thanks for the reply. That is a nice picture showing the cable to the engine. Will take it off and clean and put it back. Just bought this car. 38,000 original miles. Bought from 2nd owner who bought it in 1960

never did I see other, so Ibelieve it to be the original setup:
The GND strap goes from battery to the headbolt.
Here is the only proof I fond (Service Manual P15 - P24),
and one Foto off POC Forum, but here a cable instead of a woven strap.
Bill´s GND goes to the front of the block, mine was to the middle of the block.

Greetings from Düsseldorf!

On the 1949 P-18, is the positive ground cable mounted on a head bolt. Should it go to frame ground.
