Hello All Valiant Owners,
We have a new show location for the Nifty Thrifty 1960's Car Show. We made the change to adjust to new economic circumstances. The original site was chosen last June, but with cost savings in mind, it has been changed to the Holiday Inn
South Independence in Cleveland, OH. This is a very nice full service hotel. Actually, this is a better site for the show because the show venue is the parking lot adjacent to the Holiday Inn. The savings in room rates over the old hotel is significant.
This is a one of a kind show that celebrates the four cars, Valiant, Comet, Falcon and Corvair that came out in 1959 for the '60 model year. Americans finally accepted the idea of a smaller, economic compact car This is the 50th anniversary of that event. We want all years and models of these four brands to be represented in Cleveland Aug. 14-15, 2009. the Holiday Inn number is 216-524-8050 for reservations. Also go to www.cometeastearclub.org for more information.
Although we all have our own preferences of cars,  we have a unique opportunity to get us all together for this one time show. Please put it on your 2009 schedule. Hope to see you there.

The hotel and show site for the Nifty Thrifty 1960's show in Cleveland is being changed. In anticipation of a dip (we hope that's all it is) in the economy, we are narrowing our search to another site in Cleveland. The savings to everyone will be significant. We should have the details in place by Nov. 17th. and you can start making your reservations then. Keep checking for the post.

It's official. The Nifty Thrifty 1960's Golden Anninversary Show has been set. It's for the cars that changed auto trends in 1960. We want all years of Comets, Corvairs, Falcons and Valiants to participate.

These were the cars that changed auto trends in 1960. They all came out in the fall of 1959 and ushered in a new thinking about cars. Americans got away from the big chromed and finned cars of the 50's and for the first time accepted that less is more. Sure, Nash had been around for years, but it was a minor player and filled a small niche in consumer demand. It was not until the late 1950's that American took seriously the auto's impact on the environment and waste at the gas pump. Hence, the Big Three jumped in and developed four versions of the economy car.

We want to celebrate this. Please put this show on your 2009 schedule. It's centered around the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Bring the family.

We're very close to choosing the site for the Golden Anniversary Show of the American Compact Cars. The city will be Cleveland. The dates are Aug. 14-15, 2009. The Valiant was introduced in the Fall of 1959 along with the Comet, Falcon and Corvair. These are the compact cars that changed America's thinking to smaller, more economical cars. The "Green" cars of today are a result of what was started 50 years ago. We're going to celebrate all models of these four brands. Make your vacation plans for next year to come to Cleveland, Home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. the show will be within walking distance of The Rock and many other attractions located along the shore of Lake Erie

We're working on a 2009 calendar featuring Valiants, Comets, Falcons and Corvairs. These are all compacts introduced in 1959 for the 60 model year. I need photos of 1961-63, 64-66 convertibles, and 68-69 sedans. Please take some clean digital shots with a nice background and send them to me. Email to president@cometeastcarclub.com or mail to me at Bill Adams, PO Box 50163, Columbia, SC 29250. Include your name and number.
Thanks for you help.

Hi. I am president of the Comet East Club, a club for Mercury Comets. We are planning a show to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the introduction of Valiants, Comets, Corvairs and Falcons. The commonality of these four cars is they were all introduced in 1959. America moved from the finned and chromed beomouths of the 50's to more economical cars with simpler lines in the 60's. Our four brands truly ushered in a new era of auto design. This needs to be celebrated.
We want all Valiant, Comet, Corvair and Falcon owners to mark your calendars to be in Cleveland, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Aug. 13-15, 2009 for this show. More details will follow.
Speaking of calendars, we also want to publish a 2009 calendar to commemorate this special year. I would like to ask all of you to send me photos of your car along with a 50-75 word write-up if you would like to be considered for the calendar. Each brand will have 3 months of the calendar. This project will take some time to put together, so the sooner you can sent photos in, the better. Email to president@cometeastcarclub.org or mail them to me: Bill Adams, PO Box 50163, Columbia, SC 29250. This is a once in a lifetime event to celebrate this mileston in American auto history.
