Title: 1949 radio antenna
Post by: 28 Ply.cpe on August 10, 2020, 07:27:15 PM
Which front fender was the radio antenna placed from the factory.  I see different front fenders being used. Were some just randomly picked when someone bought a radio afterwards and installed where they liked it best.

From what I have collected over the years, it seems that domestic models for the 40's production autos where on the left/drivers side. Export cars generally had them mounted on the right. (Canadian). Is this written somewhere? I do not know. Simply an observation.

i just purchased a 1949 Special Deluxe and the antenna is on the passenger side. Most pictures I have seen has it on the driver side. I will check the serial # and see which plant it was produced at. Thanks for the observation and reply.

I am thinking that since the radio was a accessory, maybe the dealer who installed it just picked the fender they wanted. It looks good on the passenger side. Not in the way of looking to the left at traffic while turning left.  Just joking.

Here is the 1949 I bought last week. From the second owner's widow who bought it in 1960 from the original owner.

The headlight bezels are not the original . But in the trunk are the new ones he took off the car in 1950.  I am going to put them on.

The car was rustproofed when new. There is no rust on this car and always garage kept. This is a time capsule. I don't know which hubcaps are correct. the full ones or the baby moons with trim ring. Also has newer tires but not the correct white wall. But it looks good
