Title: butyl rubber sealer for windshield
Post by: Edwin K. on March 02, 2007, 06:08:31 PM
I am looking for a name and part number for a specific product. I  need to do some sealing on the windshield of my 50. The sealer I want is, I think, called butyl rubber sealer. I thought 3M had this but I have not been able to find what seems right online. It is black and it feels just like rubber. It cures somewhat but stays soft. I purchased a butyl product with the Permatex brand but it is not good. The stuff is not thick enough.

Edwin

I just had a new safety Glass windshield made for my 1928 Q today. You can get it at any local auto glass company. It comes in s tube like a caulk gun.

Yes, 3M does make the rubber sealer you are talking about.  I bought mine at a Carquest Parts store.  The 3M number 8055 comes to mind, but I am not sure.  My black rubber sealer is in Maine and I am in Florida.  But any parts store that has 3M would kow what you want.  Hope this helps.            John
