have a persistent & noisy leak where the exhaust pipe connects to the manifold on our P4.
asked the muffler shop guy to fix it when he replaced the muffler & tailpipe, hoping he had a better fitting gasket.?
he did not, so he sealed it up with something red that did not keep it quiet for long.
anyone have a source for a gasket that will work better?
or a sealant that will keep it sealed?
or raw material to make a better gasket?
also can't find a supplier for the carb to manifold gasket.
NAPA gasket is wrong size and the catalogs I have do not list this gasket by itself.
any similar ideas here?

The header pipe on all Plymouth sixes extends into the manifold about 1/2 inch. If someone has made up a pipe with a flange which is flush with the end of the pipe, it is almost impossible to keep it sealed. The solution is to make up a flange which will allow the pipe to extend through it, then weld around the pipe and flange with a wire feed welder, leaving the pipe standing "proud". It will then push up into the manifold for a leak proof joint.
The carb gasket, if you need to make one up, must have a port in it for the power valve. All the later kits offer a gasket which is larger. If I have the correct gasket in my stock I will get back to you via this medium, but give me a few days.
The carb gasket you need has a 1 1/2 inch hole in the middle and measures 2 3/4 center to center on the bolt holes. If you will send me your mailing address via a personal message on this site, I will mail you one. Upon receipt, if it is the right one, you can send me a couple of bucks to cover expenses. I do not have an exhaust flange gasket.
Has the art of making gaskets disappeared? Anyone with a small ball pein hammer and a small selection of bulk gasket material (sold in reasonably priced rolls) can make any required flat "paper" gasket. Unfortunately, head gaskets and moulded seals are beyond the capability of most of us.

my Grandfather taught me how to make paper gaskets from grocery bags for our Allis-Chalmers WC back around 1960.
I still do it whenever appropriate, and look forward to teaching the grandchildren (now 5 & 2 yrs.) when the time comes.
unfortunately the 2 gaskets I need in this instance are thick asbestos-looking affairs........
Your carb gasket is on its way, I sent it out Friday the 23, it will be interesting to see how long it takes to go diagonally across the continent.
Model "A" Fords have the same leak problem at the exhaust to mainfold gasket. Model "A" suppliers have made a short piece of pipe that extents about inch into the manifold and about an inch into the exhaust pipe. It has a small bead around the middle to keep it from slipping up or down. Maybe something like that would work for your problem without remaking the exhaust pipe.

don't know if that is good or bad time.
probably good, since the envelope had to escape the clutches of two different postal systems.
