Title: Info on 32 Plymouth
Post by: bfields on January 29, 2007, 11:42:28 PM
I was wondering how I could get info on where my car was sold, its owners, etc. I have the body # which is SR1272PB. What info can I get from this and other numbers on the car?

The body number will get you almost nowhere. The form of the numbers vary with assembly plant. From yours, I'd guess that it was the 1272nd body build at that plant for the model year. From the  number suffix it is probably a PB (1932). I'd also guess the SR in front means you might have a sport roadster. Or maybe that was just a code for the plant (I am not familiar with the structure of the 1932 body code numbers).

Is the car a roadster? That would be pretty rare. And if so, does it have a rumble seat (sport version) or trunk (business) version?

With the serial number (on the right front door hinge post) and some money you can get a copy of the "build card" from the Chrysler Historical collection. The information varies with year but the card for my 1933 shows the dealer the car was originally shipped to. There is a reasonable chance that the build card for 1932 would also have that information.

SR does indicate Sport Roadster - PB indicates a 1932 model.  Finding the early owners will be a real challenge - and is probably lost to history.  If you have the serial number (right front door post) Chrysler can send you the build card - it will tell what day it was built and what day it was shipped -- and to what dealer it was shipped.  That is a starting point.  It might be easier to work your way backwards from the person you got the car from.....if you want to post the serial number or e-mail me privately, I can check the club's data base to see if its ever been registered with the club in the past 50 years.
