The correct master cylinder for the 1928 & 1929 Q is shown . The master cylinder shown on a previous post is for a later model Plymouth U. If you are looking to be correct for your year, you should have this design. The internal repair part for rebuilding this is the same all the way to the 1940's. The rebuild part kit is a NAPA # 199 . I have researched this out back in the early sixties.
Good luck on restoring you Q Plymouth
Bill that doesn't look right.? Drawing for the Q,U,& 30U

Chet, Enclosed is a page out of the 28 Plymouth Q owners repair manual which was sent to me by Chrysler Historical in 1969. I also have spares which are the same design which came off 28's. Maybe they changed in 29 which is still a Q. Very interrestiing subject. I don't know of anyone old enough to really ask which was right back then. I have judged Q's at National Meets before and never really noticed 2 designs. I will dig deeper.

The drawing and picture that Bill has listed is just like the one on my 28 Q. Only difference is mine is leaking and has oil running down the side. I have a rebuild kit for it. Just another thing I have added to my list of things to do this winter.

PS Chet
Do you think that maybe at sometime your car may have been in a accident and repaired with 28 & 29 parts?

Dennis,
It is definitely a 29 U manufactured in the first 6 months of 1929. The serial number, engine number and body number all point to this. It was incorrectly titled as a 28 something that I will fix as time goes on but a real pain to deal with the DMV. I am not quite sure if it is worth the trouble.

Bill & Chet, the picture and drawing that Chet is showing in his post is like the one in my 30U. Could be that it is a later version.

As far as the Master Cylinder goes the parts book does show a part number for only Model Q.? See page 77.
43094? ? Master Cyl Complete - Model Q ( No serial number range. )? Probably the one Bill & Dennis Have
79444? ? Master Cyl Complete - Model Q, U ( Note [R.H.D. Only] - Not sure what RHD means )?
301099? Master Cyl Complete - Model U, 30 U up to Engine Number 266891 After that they used the one with the reservoir attached.? This is probably the one we have or the next part number.
My Model U:? ?Serial Number RY882W equates to 458,820? Looks like mid-March 1929
? ?
First half of the model U Production RR120P to RD999D or 442,201 to 499,999.?
Second half of the model U Production Y000WP to Y403EP or 500,001 to 540,381.
My Engine Number is U-21286? ? Model U engines started with U-999 and ended with U-110000
