Looking for a place to buy a new, used or reconditioned air filter for "47 special deluxe. Any advice? Thanks.
I converted my oil bath filter to a paper filter. I don't think that the oil bath filters can be replaced? They are pretty much built in. If you want more info. I can send you a picture of what I did and what filter that I used (my car is a 50 so I don't know how similar they are) I also made a metal cap that goes over the top of the filter. I don't know if I did the right thing or not? I was talking to a guy one day and he said that after Mt. St. Helens blew he cruised right through the ash while every one else sat on the side of the road. Camille
If u have a second filter to play with-just incase u screw up--u can cut the oil bath filter sustem off of the top piece, and get everything shined up so it is clean and smooth. Then go to your friendly NAPA store and go thru their supply off air filters until u find one that fits tight on the bottom and fits snug against the under side of the top piece. Make sure u don't have any dents which would ruin a tight seal
There should be lots of oil bath air cleaners for various years of Mopars out there. All you need is one with the correct clamp style to fit the carb lip and it will work, although you might have to modify the brace. I suggest you follow other advice on this board and convert it to a good quality paper filter. It is quite easily done and the modification is completely invisible, so won't affect judging if you enter the car in a competition.

Thanks for posting the link (I just noticed the date ... thank goodness for archives and searches!) Its just what I'd been hunting around for... web link indicated snug fit without modification with the listed filters. What more could you ask for?
