Hi , my name is Ian Landon , i own a 1931 4 door? pa sedan , i live in the UK and all i want to know is where i might find the chassis/body # as my body has been blasted and has no id plates!
I cant find anything on the chassis either ........any ideas?

The serial number plate should be on the right front door post. The body plate was screwed to the firewall. The engine number was stamped into the frame, I believe on your car, on the left front corner behind the wheel (near where the spring shackle is mounted) but as far as I know, the serial number was not stamped anywhere on the frame....apparently the car is in England, do you have the old registration (license) plate number? English records are usually available that would give this information. I have a friend in England who may be able to help you with that.

Many thanks ...i forgot to mention and it may be important for british gov that i have fnt/rear axles chassis /body , all panels and interior.(if you dont have 75% of vehicle they get quite distressed!)

Ian, here is a lead of where to check for the original registration records of the car. It was licensed by the Lancashire County Council when new. Here is the link to their website:

Send them the info and they may be able to help you. If they can give you the serial number, the Chrysler Archives can also provide more info on the car. I'm guessing the car was built at the Kew Works, in which case there will be extra numbers which were particular to English built Plymouth's -- I can decifer that for you if you get the info....

For what it's worth a 1931 Plymouth sedan is exactly the same as a 1931 DeSoto sedan although I dont' know if DeSotos were even exported to the U.K. Because of lower British Commonwealth tariffs most of Chrysler Kew's product came from Windsor Ont. knocked down in a box. A book I have on English versions of Chrysler vehicles calls your car: the 15.6 h.p. Chrysler Plymouth Saloon. Price 290 pds. 2,022 c.c. Testing showed it to have a top speed of 57.25 m.p.h. on the Brooklands track. Also I believe they all had 12 volt Lucas electrical systems in Britain so don't try to buy any of our stuff because they were 6 volt over here. I believe your interiors were upholstered in leather. Ours for the most part were cloth. It says the car sold fro 125 pds. in the U.S. but because of tariffs sold for 290 pds. on the home market. If I remember correctly the British pound was equivalent to $5 Cdn. at that time and the U.S. and Canadian dollar were at par. So it was $625 here and $1450 there. Ouch!!
