Title: Plymouth Registry and Sun Visor Question
Post by: XmikeyX on August 30, 2006, 10:44:47 AM
Is there a registry for Plymouths? I wanted to find out the history on my car. Where it was built, where it was sold, etc etc.
Also, did the Fulton company make a exterior sun visor to fit the 53 Plymouth??

Welcome aboard.
Your serial number should be on the left front (driver side) door post. That will tell you where the car was built as different serial number ranges were assigned to different assembly plants. You can see a list of serial numbers at:
http://www.ply33.com/Misc/vin
By sending your serial number and some money off to the Chrysler Historical Collection you can get a "build card". The information on that car varies with the year the car was built. For my 1933 the build card shows the dealer the car was shipped to. I don't know what is on the card for 1953 but it should at least show the options installed at the factory. You might also find a copy of the card in the car, perhaps under the rear seat. You can get the card from:
Walter P. Chrysler Museum One Chrysler Drive CIMS 488-00-00 Auburn Hills, Michigan 48326-2778 Attn: Historical Collection
http://www.chryslerheritage.com
Last I heard the cost for the copy of the card was $45.
I haven't got a clue as to if a Fulton visor was available for your car. When I hear about them it is usually for a little older car (1946-49).

The cost of the build card is $45. As for the sunvisor (sun shield), Fulton was an aftermarket company that sold visors for all the different brands. MoPar Parts division also sold a "factory" sun visor for dealer installation.

Without doing some "digging", the MoPar sunvisors had little slits in them, so you could see overhead traffic lights when sitting at in intersection.....THINK the '53 versions still had the slits like earlier ones.
