Title: 1938 Dashboard
Post by: 38plymouth on July 30, 2006, 07:32:27 PM
I have recently purchased a '38 plymouth 2 door sedan and it has a quite peculiar dash in it which I have only seen on one other car in a picture online, the instrument panel is cenetered in the dash with a glove box on each side. I was wondering if anyone has encountered one of these before or can supply any more information as to wether this is a canadian car as my friends speculate.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying about the dashboard.
Is there anyway you could e-mail or send me a picture or drawing of what you have?
Your description appears to be the standard arrangement for a 38.
Please write back.
I'd like to help you.

hay! I HAVE A 38' 4DR. SDN THAT I'M WORKING ON. IT HAS A CENTER MOUNT INSTRUMINT PANEL WITH GAGES AND A RIGHT MOUNT GLOVE BOX. THE LEFT SIDE HAS A PANEL WITH A KNOB THAT MATCHES THE GLOVE BOX BUT DOESN'T OPEN, AND  IT ALSO HAS A LIGHTER IN IT. THE DASH IS RATHER PLAIN COMPAIRED TO MY 39' WHICH IS MUCH MORE DECO STYLE. I JUST STARTED ON THE 38' AND HAVEN'T DONE AS MUCH RESEARCH AS THE 39' I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT OTHER 38'  MODELS.

Kurt:
The dashboard on the 38 Plymouth was a "plain Jane" item. There were (2) types of dashboards. The P-5 had a single nickle plated stripe across the left & right side doors. The other model (P6) has (3) stripes.
Most P-5's dashboards were painted a brownish color while others (P-6's) were wood grained.
In 1939, Plymouth changed the whole dashboard and added plenty of "bells & whistles" to it.
Please let me know what info you need and I'll be glad to assist you anyway I can.
