Title: new plymouth owner
Post by: pletch on November 30, 2005, 10:17:08 AM
I just recently bought a 1940 or 41 plymouth special delux in great condition and was wondering where i could get a manual ? or other maintanance manual? this car has 21,000 miles and paper notes in the glove box indicates that it had 20,000 in 1969 so im excited and ready to do some tinkering any help would be appriciated.

Original service manuals are available from various literature dealers. Reprints are available through companies like Crank'n'Hope (who regularly advertises with "buy it now" auctions on eBay).

First things first - let's determine if you have a 1940 or if you have a 1941. Post the serial number from the right front door post and I'll identify it for.

Welcome new Plymouth owner. I am wondering if you found out whether you have a 40 or 41 Plymouth? The 40 Plymouth hood opens up from the sides and the 41 opens with hinges to the back of the hood like most of the cars today. Also the bottoms of the fenders on the 40 Plymouth are plain. The 41 has some louvers to the bottom of the fenders. I have a 40 Plymouth myself. In fact the 40 Plymouth I have now just just like the one I had in High School back in the late 50's. Boy, doesn't that make be sound old? :) Have good day.
John

thanks for the info guys, It must be a 41 the hood open like most standard hoods and the bottom of the fenders have ripples or luvers on them on. But the title says 1940 and the inspection sticker which was last done in 1970 says 41 I'll get the serial # off the post and put them on here for more help.

I have a '41. I found that the original factory manual for just the '41 is more useful then the reprint of the manual that covers '36-'42. I found my factory manual on eBay. Jim Yergin

Your 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe (P12) falls within the serial number range of 11123001 through 11399250 which was made in Detroit, MI On the engine between the #1 & #2 cylinders you should find a flat area that should have a number starting with P12*xxxxxx. On the drivers side of the cowl is another number that identifies the body, 303 = business coupe, 302 = club coupe, 301 = 2 door sedan, 300 = 4 door sedan and 304 = convertible. Sooner or later most everything you might be looking for will show up on eBay. But another good souce for parts is in the ad section of the Plymouth Bulletin magazine. When you join the POC you will get a magazine. It sounds to me like you have made a very nice "find". I hope you enjoy this nice car.
