There is a threaded bushing in the head that the heat indicator screws into. I can't find a part number for the bushing. Is it at standard bushing that can be purchased at the autoparts store or is it a special part?
Thanks for your expertise. If it is a special part, what is the part number and where can it be purchased? It does not seem to be shown in any of my manuals.
I don't know that you can buy them separately, but all the aftermarket "mechanical" temperature gauges I have seen had an assortment of threaded bushings one of which worked for me. As of a couple of years ago (the last time I helped someone repair their gauge) the cost for such a package (with gauge) was $15.

Thanks for the information.? I have an NOS heat indicator the comes with the bulb, gauge, etc. all assembled.? I tested the gauge on the stove against a thermometer and it seems to read perfectly.? I just need the bushing.? Considering what I paid for the NOS heat gauge a few years ago, $15 for the bushing seems like a bargin.? Where did you get your assortment of bushings?
The bushings came in the package with the aftermarket temperature gauge.
Do you remember where you got the temperature gauge? I checked a couple of places who said they did not have a replacement gauge.
I believe that the fellow I helped most recently got it from Pep Boys. It should be in the bubble wrap area not behind the parts counter.
I purchased a heat indicator and bushing set as suggested for $25.00.? The bushing was threaded specifically to accept the heat indicator that came with the package.? The bushing was also brass and the Plymouth part is steel.? I took the part back and did some more research.? I was able to find the correct part in the master part list under "Electrical-Instrument Dial, Lens and Parts".??The bushing is called the Heat Indicator Gland Nut and is Part #50291.? I was able to purchase the part NOS from Valley Vintage Auto Parts for $4.00.? Case closed!
