Title: Burnt /Flame cars
Post by: Solly on December 07, 2024, 03:36:10 PM
Hello,
My name is Mark ( member name Solly) I recently purchased a 1934 Plymouth PE rumble seat coupe. Long story short it was love at first sight !! Since my 20's I have always admired anything from the 30's movies, furniture, clocks etc.. but especially automobiles !! well it took 50 years for me to finally obtain one but I finally did it.
I want to be a good steward for this car and the hobby so I am learning as much as I can, I have owned several classic cars and restored 1 however this is my first pre-war vehicle.
I have ordered and received the Plymouth Master Maintenance manual and am learning what I can from that.
This car is to the best of my knowledge 90-95% restored to original . I don't believe it was professionally restored by a shop however its previous owners appeared to have gone to great lengths to restore it and maintain its integrity and I'm happy with their results.
Now to the point of this post. While researching I found a article mentioning dealers receiving some unique vehicles referred to as Burnt cars or Flame cars painted in what was referred to as Carrotone # 3, Prioir to purchasing this car the owner racked it and pointed out to me what he thought was the original color now I'm no expert but the sample he showed certainly appeared like it was 90 years old and I'm not sure he was aware of the Burnt car story and he was not pushing anything just pointing out that someone in the restoration process came as close as they could to keeping things original.
This PE appears to have just about every option available for 34, is there any way I can find out what exactly Carrotone # 3 looked like and if this may have been 1 of those cars,
Thanks, I plan to be a frequent visitor here and probably a member. any help would be appreciated.
P/S I was referred by Todd @ the PD Forum , Thanks to Todd.
