Title: Differential Pinion removal
Post by: Tloud on January 19, 2024, 06:05:44 AM
1940 P10 Newbie here. I tried a search and sorry if is basic but trying to get pinion off to replace seal. Won't budge. Is it right or left hand thread? (Driveshaft by ebrake was reverse threads)

If I recall correctly, it is a right hand thread on my 1933. They might of changed that later but I doubt it.

I remember it was a bear to get off, the seal surface was damaged and needed a speedi-sleeve, and a bear to get to the proper torque with the cotter pin hole accessible on the castle nut.

Thanks. Also, what's the torque when I put nut back on. The seal on the housing is also leaking. Can the pumpkin be pulled without pulling axles? Thanks all for your help

The torque specifications I know about can be found at https://www.ply33.com/Repair/torque

All there is between the axle housing and the pumpkin on my '33 is a paper gasket. And on my rear end you need to pull the axle shafts to remove the pumpkin. Your later car may be different.

Thanks again. I was hoping to not have to pull axles.
