Title: Clutch Housing Dust Shield
Post by: mvair on November 27, 2005, 03:32:29 PM
Does anyone know if the cut-out on this '41 clutch housing dust shield is original or a modification?? There is a screw hole in the clutch housing that would indicate the missing piece used to be there.? However, I checked the parts book and it looks like this cut-out is shown in the parts illustration?? If there was a cut-out...why?? Any information will be appreciated.

There was a piece of felt like material riveted in place there.?

Here is a link to a photo of a homemade replacement on a dust shield for a P15

Thanks for the response.? I have attached a new picture with the area in question circled.? It appears the restored dustpan in the previous picture also has this cut-out.? Anyone know why?

Thanks for the information on the felt seal.? I was able to find one of these NOS (pre-cut and pre-punched) for $2.00 from Leon Silke.

I suspect a prior owner or mechanic trimmed the corner for ease of instillation. It still works well even though it was trimmed.

Thanks for the picture.  It looks just like mine.  I also heard from another member via email who confirmed that the dust shield on his '41 also has the cut-out.  I guess it was done to allow for the attachment for the spring bracket as shown in your picture.

Thanks again!

I finally painted and replaced the felt seal on my clutch dust shield.  The seal is prepunched thick felt (NOS) held in place with split rivits.  Thanks for the info and pictures from other members.
