I'm putting my 34PFXX coupe back together after some freshening up of exhaust gaskets and engine cleaning/painting. I bought a new stud/washer/nut package kit after having a stud break while removing the seized nut. Of course this was the last one to come off. Can anyone tell me which positions the 4 steel washers go vs the brass nuts and brass washers? This was my uncle's car from 1980 until 1997 when he passed and I bought it from my aunt. My 10yr old son and I finished assembling it in 1998. I'm not sure that they were ever in the correct positions. Would like to get it correct now that I have the chance. Thanks for any help.
John
I am not sure if the 33 & 34 are like the later engines. On my 33 the parts book only has brass nuts.
I think the steel washers with a cone shaped depression and the matching steel nuts are used at the very front and rear of the exhaust manifold (cylinders 1 & 6) They are supposed to allow the manifold to expand and contract without cracking as it changes temperature.
Thanks Tod, that makes sense. I'll go with that idea. I don't have any literature
with that level of detail that I can find. Hope to have it back on the road by Saturday morning.
If you have not already, please post some photos of your '34. We always like to see photos.
