I'll start by saying that I love Plymouths and would not sell my 41 for anything. I plan on keeping it the way it was made. I expect to have problems and look forward to solving them the same way my grandparents did.
I attended my first national meet last year in Illinois to take in all the beautiful cars. I was not disappointed in the cars, they are first rate and they show the many years of hard work that was put into everyone of them.
I first had my current car(1941 plymouth P-12 Coupe) in 1966 and sold it in 1967. I bought back my car in 2002 from the man I sold it to. The car was last driven by me in 1966 and the title was still in my name. In order to keep the the old plymouths original we all need parts, or in some cases, bought more parts then one old plymouth would ever need ( you know, we bought them years ago to keep the old plymouth running but we now know we are never going to need them).
At my first national meet it was clear that the judging and showing of cars was the most important think at the meet, everyone would like to be "best of show". I know that everyone showing a car has a few parts that could keep another plymouth running.
What if everyone with a certain year car would bring a few parts to sell or swap. It would be great to go to a certain year plymouth and finding even a shoebox of parts for that year car. I would find more parts I could use in that shoebox than going to 50 vendor tables. If there were 5 people showing 1940's cars, this would mean 5 boxes to look through. This would do a lot to keep the Old Plymouths running as they were built, which is what the club is all about.
There were a few vendors selling parts but there was not much available. The swap meet area was a little disappointing.
Thanks
Mike
