Title: 1931 PA clutch adjustment
Post by: Lincoln52 on January 29, 2020, 12:39:01 PM
Does anyone know how to adjust the clutch? Mine engages right at the top. The owner's manual shows instructions and a picture, but I find it confusing.

Did you ever get a response to your post? Same question among others. Just bought a '31 two-door coach in remarkable original condition, but it is ninety years old. Have many questions and note that there is no tech for '31. Bet there are many 31 owners out there and that with a bit of effort we could at least get an on-line group going to help one and other. What say?

I think that's a great idea. Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Somehow I missed your post.

Soooo, did you get the answer to the clutch question? It still engages fine but at the top. Not right.

Did not get any reply on how to adjust the clutch so it doesn't engage at the very top. The car is in storage now.
I actually have a few more issues. The voltage regulator I had installed 2 years ago puts out over 7 volts. The car  also sputters & stalls after it warms up. I have an electric fuel pump. I think the fuel delivery is ok. Maybe it's the condenser. I wish we had a 31 Plymouth sub group so we could help each other out.

Here is my thinking on the clutch issue.  If you have tried adjusting the run in or out on the adjuster, it might be the pressure plate. If the springs are weak that push the fingers forward against the clutch disk and flywheel  they won't put any pressure on the disc till all the way out. I would pull the transmission and clutch and start from there.  The voltage regulator I assume is a 6 volt. Check the output on the generator, or try another regulator..  Does the car run when the choke is pulled part way after warmed up.  I had a electric fuel pump  years ago but took it off because of over pressure even with a pressure regulator. Kept flooding carb.  Went back to the vacuum tank on my 28. Also sent my carb out to be rebuilt. I think it was part of the problem.  Hope this helps.
Title: Regulator Voltage

The 6V regulator may put out up to 7,4 V which would be ok. Under 7,0 V is not enough.
This istrue  for warm situations.
With cold regulator this differs a lot, so You only can adjust really warm regulators.
