Title: 1956 Plymouth TorqueFlite info
Post by: Moparcars101 on May 24, 2019, 01:08:11 PM
Hello Plymouth members,

I am currently doing some research on the 1956 Chrysler Corporation's push-button dash mounted transmission controls. I know that Chrysler Corporation had announced its new 3-speed automatic TorqueFlite transmission sometime around Feb 1956 and it was available with its 5 push-button dash mounted controls. I was wondering if this option was also available for the 1956 Plymouth car models as well, for I could not find any documentation or actual car photos of a late production 1956 Plymouth model having this feature.

Does any of the members have any factory service information or documentation showing that the 1956 Plymouth cars also had this option available for its late 1956 production runs, before the "new" 1957 models were started to be produced.

Thanks for your help.

From everything I can find - the Torqueflite was only used on the Imperial and Chrysler line in 1956 - the rest of the line did NOT get them until 1957.

Hello POC Administrator,

The forwardlook.net website thread that you referred me to is old. A "newer" thread that supersedes your posted thread, which does show that the 5-push button Torqueflite transmission shifter control did exist for other Chrysler Corporation's model divisions in late production 1956, besides Chrysler and Imperial car models.

Finally, I am hoping that one of the Plymouth members will have some factory documentation or literature, on when exactly Plymouth Division had first started using Torqueflite transmissions.

Thanks Rick
