Title: 1939 Transmission
Post by: DENNIS P NOLAN on October 26, 2018, 06:43:44 PM
I have a '39 P-8-all stock- The motor runs but when put into gear and clutch is let out it stumbles and dies. Up on jack stands- Running-it goes through the gears fine. The other day I tried pushing it and it seemed like it was constantly going 'into gear'. It would roll a few feet then stop...I would play with the column shifter and it would roll a few feet and again stop....Thoughts?...I am thinking that I am going to have to remove the trans and have it rebuilt...and clutch looked at...Thanks,Dennis

Sorry, no special knowlege on 39 trans, just on my 51-
but I fear You guess right!
Pull the trans out in  this winter an let it check over.
If performance is different between load and free (on jack stands),
You must be prepared to find a lot of wear- i.e. dents used down.
And that is the time to do cluch work too!
When spring comes You may enjoy the new driving feeling!!
