Title: Missing brake part
Post by: Soup on February 23, 2018, 05:38:25 PM
After moving my car in pieces three times I find that I am missing a front wheel cylinder inlet connection.  I believe it is part # 79191. It is the part that attaches to the brake cylinder and receives the flex hose.  Does anyone have one they can spare.  At this point I cannot get the brake system back in service without it.  Thanks

Looks like that was only used on the 1928-32 four cylinder cars. Unfortunately I don't have a cross reference for it.

Is it a banjo fitting of some sort? From where it is used that would be my guess. How does that differ from part 306292 which is a banjo fitting for the rear cylinder of the 1930-34 cars.

Wow. I've not seen a part quite like that before. Looks like a banjo fitting (where the bolt is) with some extra support. Two things:

1. May I use your photo on my website at http://www.ply33.com/Parts/group5#5-66-01 so that others looking for one will know what it looks like.

2. You may be looking at having one made. . . Or somehow adapting a later banjo fitting. FWIW, on the '33 which uses the same front wheel cylinder the hose simply screws into the cylinder. Here is a photo showing that (sorry about the dirt).

I thought about elininating it as well and trying to find a flex hose that would match the threads in the wheel cylinder.  Do you have a part number for the hose used on the '33 models?  I suppose I could have one cast and machined but that seems like a lot of work not to mention the expense and I really can't understand why it is necessary.  Anyway, I was hoping someone would have one as I have a thing about keeping things original.  Hopefully with the picture somone will see that they have one in their parts stash.

See http://www.ply33.com/Parts/group5 for what I know about service brake cross references and usage on various Plymouths.

With respect to the hoses, the '33 uses part 391951 which crosses to a number of parts that were available last time I did that work on my car. See http://www.ply33.com/Parts/group5#391951

May I have permission to use your photo of part 79191?

Yes, by all means feel free to use it and thanks for the brake hose information.

I have plenty of spare front brake banjo fittings off 28-30 Plymouth that look to be same as yours. Let me know if you still want one as I agree with you it is best to keep to original.
