Title: Identify model please?
Post by: DavidJ on October 07, 2016, 08:58:56 PM
We are in Australia and have a Plymouth 4 door which we believe is a 28 or 29 model. Right hand drive.
The badge (Chrysler/Plymouth) is in the middle of the dash and as best we can decifer, the identifying numbers are:
RY2 63H
Can anyone help identify exactly when this car was made or any other information about it?
Thanks, David

That is the "FedCo" number and those can be quite hard to read. But you seem to have read it properly, at least it matches up to a Plymouth. My decoder at http://www.ply33.com/Misc/vin comes up with:

Serial Number: RY-263-H
Found in range: RR-120-P to RD-999-D
Serial: 11433 of 58799
Year: 1929
Make: Plymouth
Model Code: U
Plant: Detroit
Engine: 4 cylinder 170.3 cu.in. L-head
Wheelbase: 109 3/4 inches
FedCo Number: RY-263-H

I wonder if it was made in Australia or shipped there from the states?

If it was made in the states the Chrysler corporation may have a build sheet on it.  Worth contacting them to see then send the money if they do.

Good luck with your car and please post some photos when you have time

Build sheets are only for 1930 and up (and even there they seem to have lost some records).

Thanks guys, that is a great help.
I will put some photos up when I get a chance - it is actually for sale on ebay at -
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1928-Plymouth-Sedan-/331983933093?hash=item4d4bc8cea5:g:axMAAOSwLF1X6t1V

Ken (the owner) is looking for offers over $6,500 (AUS) and this includes a 29 ute (in bits and only about 70% complete) and with 2 1/2 motors.
