Title: P18 gauge cluster removal
Post by: on March 05, 2016, 08:34:34 PM
Can anyone out there help me with how to remove the gauge cluster in a 49 Special Deluxe? I?ve been upside down with hands framed up under the dash most of the day. Got it loose but it?s still got a couple bolts somewhere. I?ve removed the radio to get better access but sill can?t seem to get it out?

If you are just removing the gauge cluster area, there are 2 nuts along the bottom and 1 nut on the left side about midway. (Left facing the cluster) The top area uses 2 pins that are inserted into rubber grommets. Sometimes those can be tight. Once the nuts are removed, the cluster can be moved toward the steering wheel just enough to access the gauge attachment nuts. Once those are removed, the faceplate can be removed. Its much easier to access the gauges once the faceplate is out of the way. Unless you've already removed the wires and such.

One tip, it will be easier to work on this area if the steering wheel is removed.

Hope this helps.
