Title: 1936 door latch springs
Post by: 36splodge on February 25, 2016, 09:22:34 PM
Was talking with another member about my sagging exterior door handles. He said pop the tabs and see if there is wear and if you can add to the part with a weld. I pulled it apart and saw the only wear was minor on the tip of the actuator. Then I got to looking at the spring and realized it was missing a few coils.

In looking at replacement parts I saw there should also be a spring in the remote mechanism. Not.

The question is does it matter what color the new springs are? I have seen them in red, black, green and gray.

After you have checked for worn parts and replaced, if the door handles still sag, which they at times do.... try heating the door handle shaft to a dull red (in a vise of course) then slightly twist the shaft until when installed the handles are horizontal.
