Some of us have cars that came with rubber floor covering that are no longer available. For such cars, I would like to see the judging rules or guidelines changed so that we could get full or some floor covering credit if some type of carpet was used since rubber is not available. Any Mopar color used during the year of a persons car can be used without any judging point reduction, why can't this concept be used with floor covering?
Been a year or two since I looked at that part of the judging forms and the last time was using the old 100 point scale instead of the current 400 point scale. But my recollection is that there were three criteria for the front floor mats: Material, pattern and condition. By using readily available rubber matting material you can get 2/3 of the way (material and condition) to full score for that part of the car. If that is all that is wrong with your car, you are a shoe-in for a first place award.
There are some people who have gone to the trouble of milling rubber sheeting to the correct pattern. Should they, in effect, be penalized by having the car next to them on the field using a readily available carpet?
And all this is moot anyway if you aren't into judging. In that case just do what you want, carpet gets dirty easier that a rubber mat but it does keep down some of the engine and mechanical noise.
For my car, the flooring was judged in the areas of material and pattern. Perhaps flooring of some order could be made up using roll stock, but I question how it would look with trying to fit on curved areas. Perhaps that will be as good as it gets. What I have now looks fair, but judges will not give it any points. I am looking for opinions at this time on this issue in case I make a flooring change. Thanks for your thoughts.
