I was looking through the parts catalog for my 1939 Plymouth, and I noticed that there was a optional fender lamp available for export cars. Does anyone have a picture of a car with these? Is there anyone who knows anything about these lamps? I was thinking they might make a great turn signal lamp.
I looked through my "Plymouth Passenger Car Parts List"... 1939 Model Series, 2nd edition issued February 20 1939... I noted the fender lamp on page 1-2, Group 1-M...
Package (export) ............ #830190..
It is very possible that this lamp assembly is part of a turn signal system and in all probability is/was 12v... Many of the European countries required turn signals many years before they were required in the US.. It is also a fact that many of the European countries also required 12v electrical systems..
I have a '36-46 Chrysler Parts Book, I'll look in that book to see if I can cross reference the fender lamp.. It just might be that the lamp assembly is the same as the cowl lights on the '39-40 commercial vehicles..... I have a pair of lamps from a '39-40 Dodge/Plym trk...
Fender lamps were very common in the late '30's, early '40's on GM cars, especially the Buick's and Oldsmobile's.... Bill
Hello, I found some more information on the 39 Plymouth Fender Lamps. They used the same lens as the 1939 Chrysler park lamp. I found a couple of pictures of a Canadian 39 Plymouth with the export lamps, and I have tried to attach them. I am new at this, so we will see what happens.
