I need a brass fitting that goes on the back of the master cylinder on 1942 Plymouths and Dodges. Anyone have a spare they are willing to sell? Thanks.
You may be able to find something similar at one of the large home stores. May get you for the time.
I'm not that familiar with the details of the '42 year but I took a look both in the '36-48 parts book and the 1944 standard parts list and don't see anything that looks like the Y or T in your photo. The '36-'48 book shows a T to be mounted on the frame and another to be mounted on the rear axle.
I'm wondering if the fitting you have is original... Parts books can be wrong. And my interpretation of the parts books have been wrong before too. So maybe your photo shows the correct part but I am wondering...
Have you checked with the '42 model year tech advisor for the Plymouth Owners Club?
It's not pictured in my 1942 parts manual, but I think it is part # 868048, described as a "brake tube tee." In the 1936-48, that part number is only shown for 1942. I'm pretty sure it is the correct part because I had the fitting, that picture is from a second 1942 P, and a guy in New Mexico sent me one from a 1942 Dodge. I've not checked yet with the '42 advisor because he doesn't have email. I might give him a call if I get really stuck.
By the way, what does Class A part mean? The parts manual has symbols by Class A parts, but I can't find a description of what it means.

The '36-'48 parts book does show a one year only part 868048 for the "Master Cylinder Outlet Fitting" and that number is not in the range that the "standard parts" seem to use. I guess that "Y" fitting is correct. Being a one year only item will make it harder to find.
I've got a one year only (actually less than one year as it seems to be specific to the PD) "T" brake fitting that I've nursed along for decades. I've wondered from time to time how hard it would be to machine a new one. Seems like there might be some special tool or technique for machining the seat. Might be worth looking into if you can't find a serviceable one.
My parts books don't seem to have mention of "class A" parts, so I could only hazard a guess as to what it meant.
