Title: My '41 P-12 hanging with the Bad Boys before being put to bed for the winter
Post by: rreid740 on December 03, 2011, 06:09:27 PM
My brother's neighbor, who has been giving Gus the TLC he's been needing, stopped work for the winter a couple of weeks ago.   Before doing so he posed this picture of the cars that will be snuggled together till spring.   The thing that looks like a rust bucket on the right is his ratrod - legally a 1937 Chevy, but I think I heard the firewal is the only 1938 Chevy part on it.   It is (despite appearances) an immaculately built car.   Those headlight stands are adjustable wrenches!

If you have an eye for under-the-hood of the 1941, you might realize that is not the stock radiator.   (Mine was unexpectedly porous and a correct replacement was not immediatly available at a price I could handle).  That's a generic hot rod radiator, but he did a wonderful job of painting a patina on it so it isn't a bright, shiny aluminum thing.

The other thing is those little amber dots on the bumper.   Jim and my brother decided not to try and wire my turn signals (really essential in my fairly urban environment) to the parking lights like I did.   I'm not so crazy about them sticking up off the bumper, but the car will always be - like me - a work in progress.

Enjoy the pictures.  He wants to spend more time getting the brakes just right, so it's going to stay up north for the winter.   Maybe Gus will be back for the next Big Indian NY show. http://www.catskillmccc.webs.com/ (http://www.catskillmccc.webs.com/)

I would say that the radiator looks just fine

Yeah, I'm pleased with what I see.  I was having doubts - thought it might look out of place - but it doesn't.  Guess overheating in traffic jams on 90 degree days will be a thing of the past.    Still have the original, keeps the options open.

Cool photos, I like the rat rod also. I think that the POC members who drive their cars have something in common with the rat rodders.

I like the way the cars are parked...They really do look like they're hangin' out! 8) And they certainly look like bad boys too ;D I don't think I would have noticed anything different under your hood unless you poimted it out... and I'm a 41 owner with an original rad! It looks like he left the fins unpainted...good thought...You'll get better cooling that way.

Good job Roger...and thanks for posting!
