Title: COUNTRY OF MANUFACTURE
Post by: fine39 on April 24, 2006, 01:47:35 PM
Hello All:

Can anyone tell me where on the car it would say the country of manufacture on my '39 P8 Deluxe.  The serial number plate on the passenger door jam only has the serial number and the plate on the drivers firewall under the hood only give trim, paint, model.  Any help would be appreciated.  The VIN (Serial) Number is 9362472.   Thanks......Lou

Hi Lou,
Refer to my previous meaasages about chassis numbers and see about a build card that'll give you all the info.

Serial numbers 9358626 to 9368510 were P8 or P8X (export) built in Windsor in Canada.

Thanks very much for the information TodFitch.  I suspected it was a Canadian built car.  Did you get this information from a publication and if so would it be possible to get a copy of it?  Thanks in advance.....Lou (fine39)

It was from a list of Plymouth serial numbers I received from Chrysler Historical Collection a lot of years ago. If you forward me your mailing address, I will get a copy made and mail it to you.

The document I will be mailing is a photocopy of 1973 list of serial numbers I got from what was then called the "Historical Collection" at Chrysler Corporation. I have entered that data into a spreadsheet for the years up through 1954 and will try to attach it here.

The file is formatted as a .csv (comma separated values) file but the upload restrictions do not allow that file type. I have renamed it to .txt. You should be able to rename it back to .csv then open it with your favorite spreadsheet program.

There may be (probably are) errors in it, so if anyone else has a list of serial numbers and would like to check it for me I would be grateful.
