The choke cable on my 39 has pulled off the choke rod, & I am wondering about the best way to reattach it. A friend has suggested using a product called J B Weld.
All suggestions would be appreciated

I tacked it with a small TIG weld. It is not easy to do because you can burn through the wire, but it works well when it works. I did need to file the weld smooth so I could put chock back in the sleeve. I hope I understood what you were asking.
I had to replace both my choke and throttle cables. I bought new generic cables, pulled the knob with it's rod and housing off the original cable then silver soldered it to the new cable and housing.

I like the idea of soldering it. You have more control with soldering than welding. Post some photos if you could! Thanks!!
Thanks to everyone I also would like to see pictures if possible - I think I'll try the J B Weld & if it doesn't work I'll solder

Follow this link to see the pictures of replacing my cables. In this series of photos, I soldered the connections but tate didn't hold. I had to go back and silver solder them and that worked just fine.
To silver solder, you need a mapp gas torch with a pencil flame. Heat up the parts until they are red hot then apply the silver solder.
