Title: 1939 Plymouth Engine
Post by: austin_a40 on April 19, 2006, 09:51:08 PM
Hi Guys,
Well its been almost a year of looking for a 39 Plymouth engine and gearbox but still no go so I'm thinking another model will do. What would be the closest look to the 39 a 38 or the 40 this will increase my chances of getting one over here in Australia.
Thanks
Owen.

Any of the Chrysler six cylinder engine family will do the trick.  The Plymouth-Dodge engines interchanged virtually bolt for bolt from 1935 thru 1959 (some exceptions on bolting up flywheels with automatic transmissions from later years).  The Chrysler-DeSoto block was 2" longer overall but that "big" engine block was used in Canadian built cars so it will fit.  Ply-Dod engines were 23" long while the Chry-DeSoto block was 25" long measured along the length of the head.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the info, I would have not thought the Chrysler used flat head up to 59 but now at least I have 21 different year models to look for.
Regards
Owen.
