MoPar (Philco) Model 840. I replaced the electrolytic caps (w/ proper polarity), and 8 tubular caps; not the mica or ceramic caps. All tubes tested (via Hicock tester) great. I connected a 4 ohm speaker and long wire antenna. I connected the radio, via a fuse, to a car battery, w/ proper polarity. When I turned on the radio (by pushing one of the push-buttons, I hear nothing; dead silence; all the tubes were glowing. I removed the vibrator, and used 120 grit paper to clean both sides of the two vibrating "points", then re-installed the vibrator. Still, dead silence. Q - Does the dead silence mean that the vibrator is dead? shouldn't there be some noise from the vibrator? Thanks
the vibrator should buzz. You can probably get a solid state replacement.
The speaker is hooked up? I forgot once.
