Title: Removing incorrect snap ring in overdrive unit
Post by: jim leman on April 04, 2006, 11:40:47 PM
Any advice on how to remove incorrect snap ring in '53 overdrive unit adaptor plate retaining mainshaft bearing.
I have ground a small slot in one end of the ring and can put a screwdriver blade into it but cannot get enough force behind it to move the ring enough out of its recess in the adaptor to get behind it or under it. I need to do this in order to force the lip up onto the adaptor shoulder so I can walk the ring out.
Can I? heat this spring steel without taking out its spring. It really goes, I think, on a component toward the rear of the mainshaft, perhaps retaining the rear bearing.
Any suggestions...very frustrated over my stupidity.

Make sure your medical insurance is paid up and wear safety glasses, better you than me, Jim. Good Luck. If you need the correct snap ring, I can probably help you. DPollock

Does snap ring pliers work ? If you have a good pair, it should work like a charm .
