What was the exact tire that came from the fatory on a '41 P12 auxilary seat coupe? What was the brand, model, width, whitewall, raised lettering, etc. Assume a 16 x 6.00 wheel.
At some point I expect Jim Benjaminson to come into these tire posts: Not only does he know which cars came with what, he sells tires and can tell you if a replica of the original is available.
In the mean time if it helps any, the earlier Plymouth sixes through at least 1935 came equipped with one flavor of the Goodyear "All Weather" tire. In the early to mid 1930 this had a diamond pattern for the tread. The blurry photos in the front of my 1936-42 service manual show a different tread by 1939 but the side walls look similar to the older tires so they might still have been Goodyear.
Chrysler products , including the 41 Plymouth were equipped with Goodyear Airwheel tires. The two rear wheels and the spare were "diamond treads" which was considered a traction tire. The front tires have the same sidewall but the tread was a block shaped pattern. Years ago, I was told that the diamond tread suffered from heel and toe wear if used on the front. I have used Jim B's diamond treads on my 35 Plymouth for 13000 miles so far and there is no evidence of abnormal wear on the front tires. In fact, they show very little wear at all.
The 41 Plymouth used 6:00 x 16.
O.K. Guys - now that my name has been mentioned....... Yes, the '41 Plymouth used Goodyear tires. The tire was the Diamond Tread All Weather and there were two design treads - front and rear. Goodyear has remade the tire but only using the "traction" pattern tread. These tires have a ringed side wall - that is, its not smooth like a modern tire but have many ringed ridges....yes, that is original. You have to look close at early photos to really see it. its not a smooth sidewall like we are accustomed to today. Goodyear makes both a 6:00x16 and 6:50x16" size. The 6:00 has a 3.5" whitewall and the 6:50 a 4" whitewall. This can vary depending on how "deep" the tire sits into the wheel so this is a "basic" width. Goodyear was the tire supplier to Chrysler from about 1930 on. The tires are also available in blackwall (cheaper in price, too). My personal preferences are blackwalls on the '33-34-35-36 models. To me the white just doesn't look good on the early cars but looks great on the '37 on up models. I put Denman 4.5" whites on my '40 back in the early 1970's - made the car look like a million bucks but I'll bet a dollar to a donut it was the first time in its life it had whitewalls (except when I had 7.75x14's on it in my high school days for that hot rod look......) If you're a club member, I will give you a discount on them.
Thanks for the information.? Let me "recap"?;) and see if I got all the details...
The standard tires from the factory on a 1941 ASC were:
6.00 x 16
Goodyear All Weather
Diamond tred on rear wheels and spare
"Block" tred pattern on front wheels
Goodyear still makes the Diamond tred tire (but the front pattern is not available from anyone).
Blackwall was standard from the factory (but whitewall's were available for replacement).
---and---
Jim Benjaminson is a Goodyear dealer and gives club members a discount (I wonder how much it costs to ship tires.)
---or---
These tires are actually made by Goodyear and available at any Goodyear dealer?
Please add any specific information and correct me if some of the information I gleened is not right.
Thanks!
*****UPDATE*****
I checked the Goodyear website for information on the Deluxe All Weather diamond tread tire.? The Goodyear website states:
Much older tires such as the older bias ply tires can many times be found through Kelsey Tire, Inc. in Camdenton MO. They have obtained the molds for several of these older bias ply tires. They can be reached at (314) 346-2506. For more information you can call (800) 325-0091. Another source may be Coker Tire in Chattanooga, TN. They can be reached at (800) 251-6336.
Therefore, it seems the tires are acutally made by Kelsey and not Goodyear.? A picture of the tire is on the Kelsey website.

The list prices on the Kelsey website are:

What are the Plymouth Club prices? Are the tires that Jim Benjaminson sells the Kelsey tires?
Thanks!
