While working under the hood on my '52, I had to move the temp guage cable just slightly....It was brittle and just broke in half. I attempted to solder the core but had no luck. Any ideas where I can locate a new cable ? Is it permanently attached to the guage...I haven't gone under the dash yet to find out.

If you broke the "cable" tube off of the heat gauge sending unit you most likely lost all or a portion of the fluid contained there-in.... I read recently on another car forum, that the tube can be soldiered back to the bulb portion, and/or a repair made to the tube with a sleeve, if the bulb portion is placed in a freezer for a few hours. The fluid contained there in will not expand when the repair is made. Of course, you would want to have the metal all cleaned and prepared so as to minimize the time out of the freezer, prior to soldiering.... Silver soldier would probably be the best in lieu of conventional soldier
Watch ebay, the temp gauges come up from time to time....Bill
