My '49 has the orriginal upholstery in it. It is in really good shape considering its age. My question is, do I allow it to wear out normally, do I cover it with plastic covers, or do I reupholster it.
I'd re-upholster. Try and match the original. The old cushions might just make you ride bit uncamfortable. And you will probably stick to the plastic in the summer. Ride, ride, ride!
If it ain't broke don't muck around with it. Original stuff is original stuff, if it is in good condition, leave it and enjoy it. You might want to see about cleaning it, but plastic, my calander says 2006 not 1956. If you want a retror look you can pick up 40's/50's era seat covers on ebay from 5 bucks up.
So I guess the answer is leave it alone until it no longer serves its purpose. I knew that I just need someone to tell me that, 'sides momma won't let me spend the money.
I agree on leave it alone. To me, an old original is much more exciting that brand new replacement. When cruising through a car show, I'm drawn to the old one in good shape vs. the shiny (new) 100 pt. restoration. Although it isn't often a person can find a car in this condition. Don't get me wrong here, they're all great.
yea my car is all orriginal. it has one small worn (as in a hole) in the drivers seat. The car is awsome(//)

Gotta agree too. Remember, it is only ORIGINAL once and since you still have that I say "Keep it".
