Hi I'm sure this question is on here somewhere but could not find. I Want to check the timing on my 49 ply. coupe. If I remember its positive for the one cable and negative for the other then put the clamp on the number one plug. Then next I think it was disconnect the vacume advance? Thanks
the vacuum advance has no effect on timing at idle, so you can leave it connected. You can also set your timing using a vaccum gauge conected to the vacuum port of the intake manifold. Assure the engine is idling at the correct rpm, attache the gauge (windshield wiper port if so equipped) and then rotate the distributor to obtain the highest steady reading indicated in inches of mercury.
You can power your timing light with a 12 v source if you want a brighter light, battery, battery charger,t jumper pac.
