Title: Just Had To Do It
Post by: Bob on March 09, 2009, 09:51:33 AM
Yesterday was a NICE  day up here in the Catskils, so my wife, our six month old dog, Cooper and I put thirty miles on the Plymouth

By time I took this photo it was beginning to cloud, but the rain did wait until we got home

Just had to share,
Bob

Nice photo, Bob.

In north central Illinois, everyone goes a little nuts on the first warm day of the year; motorcycles come out, and the occasional antique car. We had two days of sunshine and 60 degrees last week; now we're back to gloom and rain.

I couldn't take the '36 for a spin on the one nice day we had; my eyes were dilated from a visit to the eye doctor. I'll definitely have it out on the next nice day.

Regards,
Pat O'Connor

Pat,

The gloom and rain got here yesterday afternoon around 4pm, so far we have over an inch and one tenth of rain since it started.

I guess the good thing is that it is above freezing and the snow is melting because of the rain and warm temps, but............. Freezing rain is possible later tomorrow, not a good thing

Yes, the motorcyles have been out here the past couple of days, plus one '57 Chevy 4dr sedan drove by, so there is hope yet:):)

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

I always enjoy seeing pictures of your exploits.? ?The weather here in Virginia has been really nice but alas I am still plugging away at the winter honey-do projects and hope if the weather is OK this weekend that maybe I can take the old car out for a spin.? If so I will post a picture.

This will be a busy spring & summer for me.? Finishing the work in our home and getting my 48 through the paint process so I can put the interior back together.? Hopefully I will have a more modern car to putt around in by the end of the summer.? The 29 is great but drives that take me further than 30 miles from home are always full of anxiety.? ?With the rebuilt 48 maybe a ride to NY might be in the cards at some point in 2010.? ?Driving around my old stomping grounds in Kingston, Cairo, & Binghamton would be a real blast.? I wonder if the old Roscoe Dinner is still there.

Chet?

Chet,

Hopefully the weather will cooperate so you can get the '29 out for a drive this weekend, and that the '48 is able to come together as planned this summer, and yes the Roscoe Diner is still in business:):)

Keep us posted on the progress of the '48, and naturally the '29

Hay Bob,

Thanks for the photo.? The place looks pretty much the same although I don?t remember the handicap ramp.? They probably have done some remodeling since last time I was there.? During hunting season, Sunday morning breakfast would have at least half the patrons carrying side arms.? The white fence around the roof line is a dead giveaway.?

Bob thanks for the photo.? Chet?

Since it is a bright sunny day here, Dad came over and we went for a ride in the Plymouth to visit some freinds who were getting ready to fire up the evaporator to boil sap.  Just love the smell of sap boiling, not to mention fresh maple syrup with peanut butter on either pancakes or french toast

Hope everyone is having a good day, I sure know that I am:)

Good thing you had the photo dated, with the old plymouth and the building and the for-sale sign it could have been taken in the 40's (blue tarps might have given it away). Looks like a great place to get away from the busy world.

John Pringree's daughter added the comments to the photo that I took the other day, just had to share:_):)

You all will get sick and tired of me posting photos of my car, but I sure do enjoy the old thing:):)

By the way, John owns a 1940 P-10 Business coupe and a 1971 Scamp.

Hope everyone has a good day,

This morning Cooper and I went over to my sister's to visit with my Father and the rest of the family.  We took the Plymouth as it is a nice morning.   It is a twenty mile round trip to visit them, I could have takne a shorter route that cuts off ten miles total, but I didn't.  As we were getting ready to leave, my sister took this photo.  Cooper makes on good co-pilot and he sure does love to ride in the old Plymouth:):)  Must take after me:):)

Last week I took the '40 out for a drive, along the main road there is a section of the old road that has been out of service since the "new" road was constructed in the latar half of the 1940's

I know the wheels on my car are a give away to the present, but otherwise the photo could very well depict the old road being in use sometime before the road construction changed the path of the main road.

Anyway, as usual, I just had to share:)

Hope everyone is having a good day,
Bob

You and Go are just havin' too much fun with your Plymouths. Now that the rain has slowed down (we got 3.7 inches last week), I hope to have the '36 on the road next week.

There is a small diner just down the road a few miles from our house, the owner had an old black and white photo that included a 1940 Plymouth in the photo.  I asked the owner if I could bring the photo home to scan, she said yes.

Here is that photo and my rendiditon.  Kinda close, but not really.

Anyway, I am having fun with the old Plymouth and camera, so I just had to share with all of you

Being that we had a rain free day here in the Catskiils today, My wife and I, along with our dog, Cooper went for a nice ride in the Plymouth.  Here are a few photos that I would like to share with everyone, if you look closely and to the left of the front of the Plymouth as I am driving down the road, you will see a deer that was grazing by the roadside

Bob,

Thanks for posting the photos.  Very nice.

It appears that our digital photos (I am assuming that you were using a
digital camera)  --  or maybe I should say "our 'modern' photos"  --
are a bit too crisp and have too much contrast.  I do not know how
you overcome that to make a new photo look older.

Also, in the older black and white photo, I see the Heinz ketchup,
but what is in the round box just to the right of the ketchup?
And, what brand of beer is the fellow holding?  Heineken?

Title: Re: Just Had To Do It
Post by: RC Drown on July 25, 2009, 05:27:03 PM
Bill,

I would say the beer is maybe Ballentine, but not sure, I think the can is a can of Gramma Brown's baked beans

Not real sure, but that is my thoughts
Title: Re: Just Had To Do It
Post by: RC Drown on July 25, 2009, 05:39:24 PM
Bill,

the can isn't beans, it is Sauerkraut, I wasn't able to read the label on the bottle, even by enlarging the photo, nor was I able to read what the container was that is to the right of the sauerkraut

Our local fair put on by the Neversink Ag Society is having its 130 annual  event starting August 14th at the historic Grahamsville,NY fairgrounds.  I go down there most every day to walk with our dog Cooper.  This afternoon we went down in the Plymouth and I couldn't resist taking this photo:):)

Since my wife went to get groceries this morning, not to mention that thunderstorms are forcasted for later today, I fired up the old Plymouth and Cooper and I went for a ride up in the mountains.  Just wanted to share.  A few miles farther down that road it becomes much narrower and it is tarred and chipped, used second gear coming down.  Just a nice ride and a nice moring to do so.

Hope everyone is having a good day, I know that Cooper and I are:) :)

This morning the radio said thunder storms for today, so I decided that Cooper and I ought to put some miles on the Old Plymouth before the rain arrives.  So far no rain and plenty of miles on the Plymouth today, I have driven the old girl 1810 miles so far this season, the most in the 21 years that I have had the car.  Last year was 1728 miles driven, which prior to this year was the record.

Here are a couple of photos of the Plymouth and Cooper looking out the window

Hey Bob,

The view through your windshield almost could have been my former '47; it also had the metal sun visor.

Pat O'Connor

The Fulton Sunvisor was one of my first purchases after I got the Plymouth, I later sold that one, then bought another one, after I realized I shouldn't have sold the first one.  My Uncle John had a 1951 GMC pickup when I was growing up, he had an outside visor on the truck.  Always liked the looks of them and said if I ever own an old car, I will have one, well, needless to say I do:):)

I was able to get both Fulton sunvisors from Moores in Rapid City,SD.

My son Shane has a fiberglass one on his '51 Chevy 4dr

Here I go again.  Yesterday Cooper and I fired up the old Plymouth, we were riding around when we drove by the town hall in Grahamsville, we saw tha display of Christmas trees so we turned around and took these photos.   Snow is in the forecast for today, so we took advantage of the decent day yesterday to put just over 30 miles on the old car

Cooper and I were out in the old Plymouth yesterday since it was a beautiful day here in the Catskills of New York, temp was near 80 degrees.  I antiqued it as I like to think of the old Plymouth as my "time machine"

Okay, Bob, I'll take you up on your offer! After all, they're made to drive, and I love that you not only drive yours, but share your adventures. Today I took my "new" coupe out for a little trip to the beach, about 30 miles round trip. Having grown up on Cape Cod, the proximity to the salt water, here, makes this a sweet place to have "settled."

This will have to be in a couple of posts. This is the first batch,

2165   Hop in. No Cooper here, but room for you to ride.

2167   Down NC 421 toward the beach

2168   Up the bridge over the Inland Waterway

2172   Lots of scrub oak and pine here on the way out to the end of the peninsula

I hope it's okay to add a few more pics to Bob's post. GA

2195   Google Fort Fisher

2198   Ready to head back home

2200   The sun was well hidden by now, but temps still in the mid to upper 60?s. Perfect couple of hours in the old Plymouth!

Pat, we have had our share of rain and cold temps this month.  In fact today we had some snow showers and 6/10ths of an inch of rain. Temp never got out of the 40's.  Yesterday when Cooper and I were out and about in the Plymouth, was really the nicest day since a week ago today.

Cooper and I were out and about this morning in the old Plymouth, just wanted to share portions of our ride.  I shifted into second gear and slowed down to take the one of the old tire swing, as I didn't want to stop in front of their house.  Lots of good memories as a child with a swing like that.  When we were on an old abandoned dirt road, I stopped to cross the stream to take two photos, boy were the mosquitoes terrible, I think that is why those two photos may be somewhat blurry.

Hope everyone is having as good day as Cooper and I with our old Plymouth,
Bob
