I am having my 30U Business Coupe upholstered and need some help. I understand that this car had pockets on the door panels. I believe these had a stretch top (bungee cord) with gathered fabric.? How big they were? and where they were positioned on the door, I have no idea. Anyone that has any information on this PLEASE.
I see nobody with a '30 is on the site these days so I'll take a shot. The door pockets were on cars for several years right down to 1933 as far as I know. They were always right down at the bottom of the door with the bottom of the pocket maybe 6" up from the bottom of the door and they always seem to be centered back to front. The pocket was about 7" wide? by 6" high. As you say the opening was an elastic band covered in gathered cloth. The door itself was used as the 'back' of the pocket. The pocket is only one piece of door cloth with it's edge folded over about a 1/2" and the pocket then stitched to the door.? They seem now to be hanging open about an inch but that may be the age of the elastic. I would assume on day one they were tight to the door. You have a coupe and if I'm not wrong ,the pocket was on the passenger's door.
?
Maybe someone has a photo of one they can put on site?? ? ?
I refrained from answering earlier because I don't have definitive data for the 30-U coupe. What I have is at:
http://www.ply33.com/Models/30-U/
And there are some pictures that show door pockets. For example:

And some that show doors without:

I don't know about 1930, but for 1933 some body styles had door pockets and some body styles did not. So just because it was build prior to 1933, do not assume that a door pocket is correct. And for the 30-U, I don't know which ones, if any, had the pockets and which ones, if any, did not.
Thanks fellows. It appears that some had the one on the passenger door, and some had none. Not sure which way to jump yet, but if anyone else has more info please let me know. My upholsterer has had a family health problem so I have another week to make up my mind.

I have a 29-U and I have a map pouch on both the front driver?s side door and the passenger?s side.? I have been told that originally the car only had the map pouch on the passenger?s side front & I believe the driver?s side rear with a four door car like mine.? Not really sure what is correct for the rear doors.? ?I have no map pouches on my rear doors.? Maybe on my car the front driver?s door panel got mixed up with the rear driver?s side door panel over the last 80 years.

My 28Q has a pocket on the passenger front and the driver's side rear.
Thanks guys. I settled on just one map pouch on the passenger doors.
