Title: 41 Plymouth parking brake
Post by: notdavidspade on December 14, 2008, 11:59:35 PM
Does someone have a picture or drawing of the parking brake system for a 41?  I was crawling around my car last night and saw a large bracket on the brake cable tube that wasn't bolted to anything.  I didn't see anything obvious as to where it should go and suspect its been dangling for quite some time.  Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks!

Can you post a picuture of it? Is it the bracket that attaches to the bell housing?

Ah, it must attach to the bellhousing.   Hopefully someone has a picture of that (mvair???)  Also, while I was under there I noticed a plate that looked worn though from the brake cable.  Is the cable suppose to rub on a plate?  Sorry I don't have a picture of it, the car is out at the wood man's getting the body put back on.  Must have been disconnected when the engine was pulled and rebuilt.  That was several years ago..

Stephen,
Does your bracket look like this one?

yep!  That looks like the one!  I'd have to look at the picture with a flashlight, upside-down and crawling on my back to be sure.

Stephen,
That bracket bolts up on the lower driver's side where the transmission meets the back of the bell housing. It holds the hand brake cable (the clamped section) and also is the rear attaching point for the clutch arm spring (one of the holes on the top part with the two holes). The other hole on that part and the hole in the flat portion of the other part are where the bolts go to hold it in place.

If you lie on your back under your car, this is the view of the installed bracket you should see. The end of the cable shield clamps into the bracket.

Thanks Jim and mvair!  I'll get that bolted back together as soon as I get the car back.  mvair, your car is just TOO CLEAN!!  You should be ready to drive it and get it dirty by now.  Thanks again!!
