Title: 63 plymouth foot operated windshield washer
Post by: Herb on October 03, 2008, 10:14:57 AM
I have the foot pump, looking for the rest of the system.? My 63 Sport Fury does not have a windshield washer system on it and I would like to install one.? does anyone have a schematic or diagram on how the system was installed and worked??

As I recall Dad hod one on his 60 Dodge.? I believe it was a jiffy jet.? Tube from the pump through a grommet in the firewall.? Bag (looked like a hot water bag) hung from a bracket on teh inner fender.? The foot pump pressurizes the bag with air, the air forces the fluid through? the tube that feeds the nozzels.? The nozzles were mounted with spring washers in holes drilled in the cowl by the heater defroster opening.? air tube stops just under the cap, feed tube, goes down to the bottom of the bag.
Here is a link to an ebay auction for a bag. (circa 59)? has the inlet and out let deal on it.? you would just need some rubber tubbing and the nozzels. and make a hanger bracket.

The foot pump is actually a foot operated diaphram pump, the pump pulls water from the bag through a hose and then pushes the water back through another smaller hose to the two nozzels. The bracket is quite simple which attaches to the inner fender to hold the bag, and could be made very easily. The part that is usually hard to find is the small plastic spliter that mounts on the fire wall to seperate the single hose from the pump to each of the nozzels. I believe the nozzels were used on a lot of the latter mopars. You might go on the slant six forum and ask if anyone knows where you might find some of the parts. I found a good bag on E-bay a couple of years ago that was in fair shape (no holes)? I can take pictures of my wifes 63 Dodge Dart convertible to show the bracket, hose routing, etc.? The pump use to come up quite frequently on e-bay. My e address is . if you like e mail me your address and I will send the pictures there. Wayne in California

Herb, would you re-send the message to me about the window washer, it somehow came through in my junk email box and when I tried to put in my regular mailbox it disappeared, along with your e address. And yes I will photograph the system also I will copy the Info in my manual. I will also make a schematic drawing for you. The foot operated (bulb type) unit was installed up into the 70s, The 64 models also came out with a electric operated pump, the 65s came out with a plastic box (jug) for the fluid, all were mounted on the left (driver side) inner fender.
