In April we purchased a 1937 Plymouth 2 door slant back. An article written (not by an automobile expert) about the car stated that there were only 3 of this model of Plymouth registered.
Can someone assist us in determining the validity and what we can do to further document such a statement.
Thank you.

Maybe this link will help you. Your car may be what they called the business coupe.

Good luck in your documentation!

I believe by "slant back" he means "sedan". In that era Plymouth called the versions with trunks "touring sedans" while the non-trunk versions with slanted backs were simply "sedans". I am guessing that this is a carry over from the older body styles were sedans did not have trunks except as a owner supplied box mounted on a accessory rear rack.
The production figures I have show that there were 28,685 P3 two door sedans and 7,926 P4 two door sedans built. I am not sure if any P3 two door touring sedans were built but I show 111,099 P4 two door touring sedans.
Looking at my 1.5 year old Plymouth Owners Club roster, I see three 1937 two door sedans listed. There are more 1937 two door touring sedans, so it does seem that the "slant back" two door is pretty rare nowadays. Also, many people might list their "touring sedan" as a "sedan" because that would match the more recent use of the term. So it is possible that one or more of those three 1937 two door sedans is actually a tour sedan.
The club's permanent files show a total of 13 - "2 door" 1937 Plymouths. These are cars that have been registered by serial number to still exist. The cars are a mix of both the P3 and P4 series - some owners didn't list the body number. 901 is the body code number of the slant back two door sedan in the P4 line; 911 is the body code for the P3 series. There have been 315 1937 Plymouths registered. Remember a car is not counted unless the serial number has been provided to verify the car.
