First need: I am removing the side and fender chrome from my 47 special deluxe and want to know the size and type clips I'll need to reattach the chrome. Second need: Where can I find an escutcheon tool to remove door and window handles? Third need: Where can I locate a dimmer switch for this model? Many thanks from Tenn.
Removing the handles doesn't require any special tool - you can use a nail, awl or any other sharp, round object. Simply push the escutcheon tight against the door panel and you should be able to see where the pin is located on the shaft. The pin locks the handle to the shaft. Drive the pin out (be careful not to catch the opposite side of the escutcheon and bending it as the pin pushes out). Once the pin is out, slip the handle, escutcheon and the spring behind it off the shaft. You may have to gently (GENTLY) pry the handle off the shaft, as it may have "welded" itself to the shaft. Work slowly and carefully from one side to the other. If you pry too much, you will break the "ears" of the handle - it is made of pot metal and will be brittle after all these years.
Dimmer switches can be obtained from Pro Antique Auto Parts 860-623-8274, Roberts Motor Parts 800-231-3180, and Andy Bernbaum 800-457-1250. Restoration Specialities 814-467-9842 carries all types of clips etc.

One item of note (from the voice of experience). When you are being "...careful not to catch
the opposite side of the escutcheon and bending it as the pin pushes out", be sure that you
CATCH the pin as it comes out of the shaft.
