I was able to purchase a YOM (year of manufacture) license plate for my California car. I have had it approved from DMV. It is larger than the standard sizes of today.
Does anyone know of a source for frames of the older size frames?
I need to reposition how it sits on the trunk. I figure I will do that when I find a frame.
Original rear plate brackets for the '52 had 2 parts.? One was a hook-shaped piece that held the top of the license plate, and the other had screw slots so the bottom of the license plate could be fastened on.? Both pieces were made with lots of 'adjustability' because license plates varied in size from state to state. (Plate sizes were standardized in the mid-fifties, I think).? Anyway, they come up on eBay from time to time and shouldn't be too hard to find.? BTW---what are you using to light the rear license plate since the original tag light is gone?
I have one of the pieces for the license bracket. So it will adjust OK once I am settled on what I want to do.
I do have a trunk emblem with license light that needs to be re chromed. I plan on using it once done.
thanks for the info on the two piece bracket, I didn't know that.
If all else fails, you might want to watch EBay and look for an old adjustable license plate frame. These came in 8 pieces - four corner pieces, two vertical and two horizontal pieces. You slid them together to compress or expand them to the proper size. I've seen both plain tube design and designs with ribs and ridges.
John, I bought a set of nice chrome surrounds at Pomona swap meet three or four years ago, I think there was a dealer at Pleasanton swap meet. I thought they were a little pricy when I bought them $40.00 But I wanted so I spent!
Good to know, thanks I will keep my eyes peeled. 8)
Kanter sell the 'tele' style (http://catalogs.shoplocal.com/kanter/index.aspx?pagename=moreinfo&fsid=2540712f-db4b-43c7-8eb8-df42fb6174b9&uniqueid=6336329&circularid=7772) Jim mentioned. They look just like the ones I've seen pictured in earlier Mopar accessory brochures.
Hampton Coach (http://www.hamptoncoach.com/catalog/31.htm) also carry some 'fixed' styles.
