Title: Little rubber inserts
Post by: jd2ksilver on June 14, 2008, 01:39:53 AM
Above the front main bearing is the bracket for the front timing cover/oil pan gasket.

Those little rubber slits, I have not seen a part number, nor do they come with my oil pan gasket package.

I was going to put some RTV in their place.  (They are worn flat now)

Any body have any other info on them?

They should have come in the kit. But like you say I would just leave them in place and put a line of RTV over them. BTW Chrysler dealers sell their own brand of black RTV that is oil and gas proof. Back panel says "Developed to retain sealing and adhesion when exposed to engine oil. Features excellent adhesion even on oily surfaces. Sensor safe."
The dealer tells me it's all they use in the shop now to seal engine and tranny pans. I've been using it for several years now on my antiques and modern iron. It's about $9 a tube. Chrysler also considers it a glue, it's thicker bodied when it's cured. Doesn't tear so readily like the cheaper RTVs.

Great, thank you for the info.

I've got some of those little seals in a gasket kit here, or at least think I should have.

If I remember correctly, they are just short lengths of round rubber.....if I can find the gasket set which has them, I could put in the length and diameter here, at which point you could just go to any industrial supply house, and get some standard industrial o-rings of suitable cross-section, then cut suitable lengths of the material.

cheers

It seems to me, mine came with the main seal gasket set.
