Title: 1951 car jack
Post by: Go Fleiter on May 23, 2008, 01:55:47 AM
This is the jack I found in my car, the tag attached. The writer seems to be Darl C. Hartson, first owner, as showing a very similar handwriting a a note in the manual.
Greetings Go!

That looks like a pretty nice jack, Go and the tag is like the one that came in those cards, but the jacks in all of my cars have a triangular cross section in the post, and a ratchet like mechanism which lifts the car one notch at a time. The machanism and bases are green in colour and the 51 has a piece which fits the bumper cross section perfectly.   dp

I'd be afraid to use it, looks little too much like a can opener to me!!  I find it a little hard to believe that that is a 50 year old jack... the card is so nice and white with nice crisp looking edges.  Still a nice looking piece.  Have fun!

Well, boys, the card is a copy from the original (stored away) and is laminated..
David, I never had the idea to muse it, nor did I check for the bumper / hook cross sections fit ---

It just stands in front of my car and holds my foto collection, as You see in this shot 2006 in D?ren, GE.

So it seems this Hard Rock miner was given credit for saving dozens of lives by actually holding up a broken mine support beam when the mine shaft caved in. The newspaper reporters crowded around his hospital bed asking about his injuries. Pointing to a crease across his head, he said," this is where the beam that I held up pressed against my scalp."
A reporter asked, "How about that mark under your chin?''

"Oh," says the miner," That was where the fellows put the jack."
