Title: Save a 49 Plymouth.
Post by: jtw37 on May 11, 2008, 07:44:22 AM
I got a call Yesterday from a friend, that told me about a 49 Plymouth that was For Sale. I have a chance to buy this car, but the wife says NO. But being the collector, I will buy it. The problem is, I don't really want it. I currently have 2 49 DeSoto's, 2 37 Plymouth's, a 47 DeSoto and a few others. I really don't need it. But for the sake of keeping it from disappearing into some scrape yard, I will buy it.

It will be For Sale as soon as I get it. I don't have all the details on it, other then my friend says it does run and it not rusted into the ground. So PLEASE if your interested in buying this car, go to the members link and when you get there do a search for jtw. It will bring up my info and use my e-mail to let me know. I will be glad to exchange phone numbers with you. I will go look at this car Saturday and have more info and hopefully some pics.

I'm not interested in parting it out. I will sell it for whatever it cost plus a small fee for transporting to my location. I'm hearing it is $500.00, but will know more tomorrow (Saturday). I will have to move on this pretty fast. I am also posting this on some other forums.
Thanks, JT

Okay Guys, here the skinny on the 49 Plymouth.
It DOES have a correct Title.
I will add a link to photo's of the car at the end of this.
The car overall is in decent shape. It is a three speed with no overdrive, that I could tell. Not rotted completely away. Would make a good starter car or maybe a good parts car. Most everything is there with the exceptions listed.
No Grill
No Bumpers
Missing some body trim, but I may have some of it myself.
No Radiator, but I may have one. Not real sure on that.
Not sure about the inner fenders, but I think they are gone.

Although in the photo's you will see items missing, like the rear fender and tail light, headlights, they are inside the car. The car is also loaded with some junk, which will get removed. The seats are there and shoved in the back seat.

Now for the bad stuff.
It does have some rust, (I mean it is in Northern Indiana) but the rust is pretty minimal, it appears. Most of it is in the typical places, at the floor by the back seat corners, which appears to be minimal. In the corners of the trunk, which you can see in the photo's. The fender, doors, and floor in general are in good condition. All glass in there in good. I think one was a little smokey at one corner. All handles were there as far as I can remember as well as the door panels.

Now for the engine. I was told that it ran and it did. Everything in on the engine, BUT the Yo-Yo that owned the car, that had it running, threw a rod out the drivers side of the block. Probably didn't bother to check the oil. I was disappointed in that, but overall the car would make the save it list, in my opinion.

The price I'm working on, as he says if it don't sell, it will get scraped. So if anyone wants or needs this car or the parts, it won't last long. I'm still thinking on buying it, but if no interest is shown, I may pass on it. PLEASE let me know if your interested. Here is the photo link.
