Title: Cadmium Plating
Post by: Doran Johnson on May 03, 2008, 10:42:17 PM
Here is a topic I haven't seen addressed on this forum.

1)  When did the auto industry begin cadmium plating of small hardware items such as fasteners, brackets and clamps?

2)  When did the Chrysler Corp. begin using cad-plating.

I have heard various answers to this question that range from beginning in the 20s on some makes, to not on any makes until after WWII.  I was wondering if any of you might have some good information on this topic from your personal experience or research.

I saw a copy of the visitor information guide for plant tours that was given to people who visited the assembly plant in 1941. It listed one of the features of all Plymouths as having cadmium plated hardware. The 1941 tech advisor, Larry Jenkins, has the publication if you need documentation.
